My Missing Piece
To my Grandpa,
“Grandpa, even though you're no longer here, your spirit still guides me in every idea, every photograph, every piece of my work. You put me on this path and still, you are my muse. Your thoughts and wisdom carried me through college and helped shape the person and artist I am today. In every creation, I carry a piece of you with me, forever my inspiration. And now I dedicate my undergrad senior series to you, my missing piece.”
Grandpa's Puzzles, My Missing Piece is a visual tribute to my grandfather, capturing the quiet moments of connection and love we shared. Through photographs of objects and concepts that represent him, this series reflects his gentle spirit and appreciation for life's small pleasures. As puzzle pieces these images are more than mere snapshots - they are fragmented pieces of a larger story, symbolizing how memories, like the puzzles we used to complete together, often remain incomplete. Transforming original black-and-white photographs into physical puzzles reinforces this theme of fragmentation. Cutting these photographs into puzzle pieces mirrors the nature of memory itself - scattered, sometimes missing, yet waiting to be reassembled.
